In our Free At Sea cruise package, we were offered 100 minutes of complimentary wifi. Jake and I opted for a budget room, so we got an inside stateroom. Honestly, the room was small, but it was clean and had enough space for the two of us.

These Norwegian Jewel mid-ship staterooms sleep up to three guests and come with two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed and a convertible sofa pulls out to sleep two more. A 2018 refurbishment and multiple stints in dry dock during the Covid-19 pandemic have given Jewel a new lease on life.

Some people may lament the loss of the water slide and fake palm trees around the pool, but the result is a more relaxing space, especially for adults. Add to that an always-casual, laid-back ambience and a wealth of dining venues, and Norwegian Jewel is a comfortable base from which to explore any port of call. There are two big pools, six hot tubs, countless sun lounges, Topsider’s bar and a pool just for kids.
Club Balcony suites are, similarly, essentially an upgrade from your miniature suite, which is an upgrade from your balcony staterooms. You get a balcony, an extra sitting room and a large bathroom. The oceanview rooms are a little bit more of an upgrade. They’re only slightly larger than the interior staterooms, but they still manage to feel a lot larger because of the windows. Interior staterooms manage to look roomy and comfortable, even though they are interior, so your smallest option on the ship.

When you think of a cruise ship, you’re probably thinking of a tropical sunny destination. And well, this ship is certainly designed for a cruise of that nature. Additionally, there is also a jogging/walking track on Deck 13 that is open 24/7.
Neutral tile floor, faux-marble shower stall, a sleek square sink, and better lighting have transformed it into a bright, modern bathroom. If you’re on an average cruise, you should be able to try a little bit of everything, without feeling like you missed out on anything in particular. Deluxe Owner’s suites are a brand-new option as of the ship’s 2018 refurbishment. They offer large balconies (balconies that are even bigger than some of the other staterooms in total) and can accommodate four travelers each. Family suites feature multiple bedrooms, and can hold up to six passengers, making them ideal for not just families but groups of friends as well.
For the people outside taking in the scenic views, it got very crowded on the pool deck and deck above along the railings. This was one of the major flaws of the Norwegian Cruise Line design because there was not really enough space for everyone to enjoy the views along the railings “peacefully”. We only got to try out 1 of the specialty dining restaurants (Cagney’s Steakhouse). This was included in the Norwegian Jewel Cruise Ship Free At Sea promotion. You also get unlimited still & sparkling bottled water, plus all Starbucks® coffee & specialty drinks included in the premium drink package. Which could be beneficial if you plan to get specialty coffees and bottled water daily aboard.
Plus each piece of cardio equipment faces out to the beautiful views. The Norwegian Cruise App allows you to pre-book dining reservations, book shore excursions, see the schedule of entertainment on board, or to chat or call members on board. But with the wifi being poor, it was hard to use the app successfully aboard, so I found the app was basically useless. I can’t really suggest paying the extra cost for specialty dining. I just think it is way overpriced, service was slow and too similar to the food already offered complimentary. One benefit of a Norwegian cruise line is the wide variety of options for different restaurants and cuisines offered.
This lounge is the daytime venue for trivia, games, and scheduled social gatherings. By night, bands play top hits or tributes before late-night karaoke kicks in. Norwegian Jewel’s entertainment is mainly geared towards adults. Heavy emphasis is on nightly live music and participatory events, such as trivia with cruise staff, bingo, a number of different game shows, dance lessons, and karaoke. Cruisers who have been on other large ships may feel the program lacks variety and wow factor.
These Mini-Suites sleep up to four guests, making them ideal if you want to bring the kids. They have two lower beds that convert into a queen-size bed as well as a sitting area, luxury bath with shower and additional bedding to sleep two additional guests. Because they are aft-facing suites, the view from your private balcony is truly amazing.
Therefore, overall, the views certainly impressed us, but the boat is not exactly designed for sightseeing in chilly temperatures. It was rare for many people to be “sunbathing” on the pool deck. And with this area being largely unused meant that passengers were disproportionately concentrated in other areas. You will also see two other hot tubs 2 decks above from the main pool deck, but you must be part of the Haven Club. Some of my favorite days on the Norwegian Jewel Cruise Line were the scenic days at sea.
